YES! It's bi-lingual!

As cultures interact, shifts may occur within its body. Trying to point out the importance of unnecessary language mixes, the articles will be presented in Bahasa Indonesia and English for your reading convenience.

My Skepticism?

I don't know if it's only me who's being over-critical or the reality of the situation is as my eyes perceives, but there are a number of things (in Indonesia) that are bothering me (sad is more appropriate iguess), such as :

1. Kid are growing up too fast these days
Who's to blame? Parents who are just more negligent of their child's social surroundings and cultural influences or (the easy solution) blame the internet, media, and other mass-communication platforms.
2. Social and economical unbalance in certain parts (people) in Indonesia are becoming more vivid
Again, who's to blame? The best advice that I know most people can give is "put more effort and determination with a pinch of patience will bring you the wealth and comfort you want", although, those with an economically better starting point can climb the mountain faster
3. We have yet appreciate the importance of nature outside its economical and commercial value.
What does that create? A careless attitude towards a priceless posession unless it can give back some sort of revenue or income. To promote is not to exploit. For example, we have great beaches but we can't even enjoy the view unless we're staying on a sea-front cottage or pay just to park. There are a few publically accessible beaches, but others are already privately owned and turned into a money conveyor. The irony is, that does not equal to the amount of funds to care for the beach, the water, and the surroundings.
People then tend to blame the government for not paying attention or make accusations that the funds were corrupted. But we should really blame ourselves. How long are we going to wait for someone else to do something to prevent further destruction? It bothers me that it's hard for our mouth to remind others, but its easy to criticize.

Examples? Rather than trying to illustrate what I saw, I suggest you go to Anyer, Carita, Jakarta Bay-side, and the beaches of Gunung Kidul just to name a few.

A story from a friend I met in Karimun-Jawa, Christine, told me about a friend of hers who went to various beaches in Asia and picked up trash that he would found daily. And while he was doing it, he would slowly persuade the locals to do the same and thus created a chain of voluntary trash pickers.
To sum up :
I am affraid that my niece will suddenly act 17 when she turns 12, talk and dress and spend like the average teenager.
I am affraid that the situation will create a multi-dimensional social clash and suspicion towards each other.
To visit the next beach, I'm affraid to find something that might disappoint me as I have been disappointed before by the sight I saw.

But I will try to stay an optimist none the less.

RUN and reach the Horizon!!

All of a sudden, Jakarta became comfortable and ideal overnight.

Yes. It's a holiday and it's a whole new sight. The streets are emptier, the commute of people are not as hectic, thus the amount of smug is down by perhaps a-gazillion percent (sorry for the exaguration) and the amount of daily trash is reduced to a pleasing amount. Is there such a thing a pleasing amount of garbage??

Oh yes! Bless the holidays!
It's our gift for being good boys-and-girls of this great city.

If I may propose to our kind president and governor, lets create more holidays - no matter how bougeous they might sound, so we can have more day-off and enjoy an extended amount of peace and comfort such as these past few days.

Such holidays like Happy Pets Day, or Animals Who Fought in Some War Day, or Anti Corruption Day (wait, that last one seems to exist. Perhaps for some sort of ceremonial formality). Garuda Bird Day or maybe Public Transportation Day sounds like a decent holiday.

Whatever the name or the occasion, I'm enjoying this temporarily-relaxed Jakarta. I might as well, cause I know it's not meant to last.

To think of it, nothing in life is everlasting.

That's what it teaches you. Enjoy what you currently have. Make use of the day-off you get. Take your time to explore beyond the ordinary, the routine. Routines are made to bore so that it will ignite some adventurous spirit in us. They are the seconds we count backwards towards the day we run and reach the horizon.

Get it? Got it?
Good.
